Climate and Civilization - the Maya Example

Topic: This activity uses authentic geophysical and geochemical data collected by the Ocean Drilling Program to examine climate in Central America during the recent past and explore the link between climate change and population growth and collapse among the Maya.

"I was struck that even with living "close" to the earth and having drought being a reoccurring problem, the Mayan people where still wiped out by that catastrophe. We do not live close to the earth by any means, instead we try to always dominate it. But we should be able to learn from past climate problems and make adjustments to lifestyle choices."
